Restoration: Face

Go green- not with envy, but with the OCM

Tired of rubbing your face with caustic, synthetic chemicals found in drug-store face washes? Me too. In my effort to keep up with STEM’s green goals, I stumbled on an all-natural face-washing method called OCM, or the “oil cleansing method.” It’s so easy, and more importantly, eco-friendly. Give it a try with the following recipe to invigorate your skin and eliminate blackheads… naturally!

1. First, gather a washcloth and start running some hot water.

2. Mix some extra virgin olive oil and castor oil (Don’t freak! Yes, castor oil has a great texture for opening pores.)

3. Massage your face with the oil mixture for about two minutes. Make sure to remain gentle, getting the T-zone and nose especially.

4. Soak the washcloth in the hot water, and then spread it over your face with the oils still on. It’s like a mini-facial!

5. After letting the washcloth cool on your face, wipe away the oils and dirt.

6.Voila! You have one fabulous face!

Note: You can substitute jojoba oil for olive oil, but not for the castor oil.

Remember, with facial conditions, it’s important to try some on your wrist or hand first. Castor oil can be too drying for some skin types, so be sure to experiment before going all out!
